COMPREHENSIVE
STUDIES IN PURE LAND BUDDHISM
Welcome to the Jodo Shu Research Institute website! Here you will find
in-depth history, analysis and translations of Pure Land Buddhist
resources related to Japan's first independent Pure Land denomination,
the Jodo Shu, founded by Honen Shonin in 1175.
In the column found on the left side of our webpage we have divided the
materials into multiple sub-headings in order to allow for easy access
in accord with varying levels of interest. By utilizing this simplified
format we hope to serve both the needs of our general visitors wanting
a basic overview, and the needs of students and scholars who might be
looking for a more detailed treatment of points and access to further
sources. In addition, we have included information about our ongoing
work and projects at the Research Institute.
Please let us know via email if there is any way we might assist you in
your studies of the Jodo Shu Buddhist denomination, and be sure to join
our JSRI Message Board if interested in connecting with English
speaking Jodo Shu Buddhists around the globe.
